Chamber kicks of Twelve Days of Christmas promotion

Thursday, November 18, 2010

The Cherokee Chamber of Commerce has recently kicked off the shopping season with the Holiday Open House in Cherokee, but they still have many events taking place in the coming weeks.

The theme that the Chamber Promotions Team has set for this year's Holiday promotion is the Twelve Days of Christmas in Cherokee. They want to highlight additional events and activities that the Promotions Team is working on this Holiday Season:

o Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving is the traditional busiest shopping day of the year. The Chamber Promotions Team would like people to shop in Cherokee on "Black Friday" Nov. 26, this year.

o Mayor Mark Murphy is working to set a large Christmas Tree in the City Hall Parking Lot along Main Street. The plan is to officially light the tree the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 26.

o To keep with the Twelve Days of Christmas theme, the Chamber version of "Five Gold Rings" is going to be Gold Saturday, Nov. 27. The Chamber Promotions Team is going to sell 100 gold Cherokee Christmas ornaments for $2 each. Each person who buys an ornament gets to put their name in a drawing for $100 in Chamber Bucks.

o The 12th Annual Wonderful World of Christmas Parade will be Thursday, Dec. 2 beginning at 6 p.m. in Downtown Cherokee. The popular parade brings hundreds of people to Main Street each year.

o Santa will make a special stop during this year's parade at the corner of Main and 2nd Street to draw the winner of the Holiday Raffle. Two lucky winners will receive $1,000 each ($500 in Chamber Bucks and $500 in cash) Less than 300 tickets remain. Get yours at the Chamber of Commerce, Gasthaus, Jane's Sanford Lane Salon, Copper Cup or Cherokee State Bank while they are still available. Cost is $5 per ticket.

o The Promotions Team is also organizing a Living Windows display in Downtown Cherokee on Thursday, Dec. 16 from 6 - 8 p.m. Nancy Hohbach is organizing this event and may be getting in touch with area business. If you do not hear from Nancy but have an idea for your store, you may contact Nancy or the chamber.

o Extended Hours - The Promotions Team decided to suggest the following extended shopping hours for business. Sunday's beginning Nov. 28 from noon - 4 p.m., Monday - Friday beginning December 13, open until 8 p.m.

While the Chamber knows that they will never get everyone to get on board with the exact same hours of operation, the Promotions Team thought this was a good step in providing direction to those businesses wondering what they should do.
