ALTA - The Alta-Aurelia girls got their initial basketball season off to a good start here on Tuesday night, as the Warriors beat South O'Brien by a 60--43 score.
Jordan Henningsen had a double-double for A-A with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and the senior added six assists and four steals for good measure; Courtney VanHaaften scored eight points, grabbed nine boards and had two steals; Meghan Glawe had eight points, seven rebounds and four steals; Haley Payne scored eight; Meagan Phipps had six points and four boards; and Audrey Winterhof added six points.
AA coach Jeannie Henningsen said, "This was a good first game. We played both halves of the court with intensity for four quarters. We made a lot of improvement just from the Jamboree game. Jordan had a good game with a double, double, and I thought Haley, Courtney, and Meghan Glawe were aggressive on both ends of the court.
"Meagan Phipps and Audrey gave us some sparks throughout the game, and gave us some momentum. Emily (Maharry), Shaina (Thevenin), and Lesa (Turnquist) did a nice job coming off the bench and played well. Our team is learning the feel of each other, and our goal is to improve with each practice and game, and do the little things that make a difference."
The Alta-Aurelia teams will take on Ridge View at Schaller on Monday.
