STORM LAKE - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Eagles got their season off to a good start here on Tuesday, as they took a 22-5 first quarter lead over non-conference opponent Storm Lake St. Mary's and cruised from there to a 70-37 win.
Erica Dreckman poured 28 points through the hoop to pace the Lady Eagles' effort, and she recieved ample support from teammates Jalyn Doeden and Kayla Foresman, who each scored in double figures themselves with 12 and 11 points apiece, respectively. Carly Lenhoff chipped in with eight points and Reagan McDaniel added six.
The Eagles out-rebounded their opponents 34-20, led by Doeden's nine boards. Stephanie Specht had five rebounds and Foresman four. Lenhoff dished out five assists, while Foresman and McDaniel each had three and Dreckman added two.
Alyssa Lenhart had 11 points to lead St. Mary's.
An enthusiastic MMC coach Tim Dreckman felt that his team "did a great job rebounding. They moved the ball very well, pushed the ball up the floor, played great defense all night, and just executed everything really well for the first game."
Coach Dreckman also cited the excellent play of Lenhoff, McDaniel, and Anna Wilcox coming off the bench.
