Area lamb producers and agri-business professionals are encouraged to register by December 8 for a Lamb Feedlot Meeting to be held Dec. 13, 7:00-9:30 p.m. in Orange City.
Dr. Dan Morrical, ISU Extension Sheep Specialist, will discuss "Ideas for Minimizing the Cost of Gain." Lamb prices are favorable to producers, but it is still important to control the cost of gain -- especially with $5 corn. Morrical will emphasize selecting the right lamb to feed, ways to improve feed efficiency and risk management strategies that are useful.
Dr. Paul Plummer, ISU Veterinarian, will visit about "Tips for Practical Disease Management and Diagnosis." Plummer will share simple, low-cost methods that producers can use to diagnose common diseases, such as urinary calculi. He will also visit about his latest findings on lamb abortions.
The Lamb Feedlot Meeting is offered by ISU Extension, Iowa Sheep and Wool Promotion Board, Iowa Sheep Industry Association and the Northwest Iowa Sheep Producers. To register ($10/person), contact Beth Doran, ISU Beef Program Specialist at 712-737-4230 or email@example.com.
