Paulsen to lead inexperienced South O'Brien boys

PAULLINA - One varsity starter is among the five lettermen returning to guide the South O'Brien boys in the tough War Eagle Conference this season.

Veteran coach Kiley Yates welcomed multi-talented Adam Paulsen back as the only varsity starter from last season, and he is joined by capable lettermen Chas Biery, Ben Wagner, Austin Wise, and Nate Struve, all of whom will carry much of the load for the Wolverines this year.

Among promising newcomers who will fill vital varsity roles as the season progresses are John Gray, Eric Magnussen, Sam Weber, and Matt DeVos.

Paulsen, who has considerable basketball skills all over the court, was a second team All-WEC pick last year in the star-studded conference.

Coach Yates lists his team's strengths as good shooters, good basketball skills, hard work ethic, good ball-handling, and great team attitude.

The lack of considerable varsity experience is listed as a team shortcoming.

The Wolverines were 17-5 last season and finished 8-7 in the tough WEC.

Rehder leads a youthful SOS girls basketball team

PAULLINA - One returning varsity starter and three other letter winners need to step up and serve as the nucleus and leadership of the 2010-2011 South O'Brien girls basketball team.

That returning starter - junior Casie Rehder - is a talented player capable of leading the way for the Wolverines as she averaged a double-double last season in the rugged War Eagle Conference, earning first-team All-WEC honors for her 10 points and 10 rebounds per game average.

Rehder will be joined by returning letter winners senior Taylor Jalas, junior Erin Brasser, and sophomore Kaitlyn Aberson to comprise the nucleus for the Wolverines this season.

Among the promising newcomers who will impact coach Allen DeVos's team are sophomores Rebekah Jenness (post) and Terran Ebel (guard); and freshmen Mikayla Hintz (guard) and Rachel Struve (post).

Coach DeVos lists team defense as among his major strengths. "We continued to improve each time out as the season went along last year," said DeVos.
