Deloris Julia Benson, age 82 of Cherokee, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Visitation began at noon on Sunday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday night. On March 21, 1959, Deloris was united in marriage to Carl O. Benson. Following their marriage they moved to Cherokee where she worked for the egg plant. She then worked for Hilltop Care Center in Cherokee. She later became a homemaker where she helped raise her two sons, Lonnie and Darin Benson.
Deloris enjoyed watching the Price is Right, W.W.E. Wrestling, and putting puzzles together. Most of all, she enjoyed talking to her friends on the phone and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hazel Husman; her husband, Carl O. Benson in 1994; and two sisters: Edna Peck and Lois Stykel.
She is survived by her two sons: Lonnie Benson and his wife Sharon of Meriden, and Darin Benson and his wife Heather of Cherokee; one brother, Clifford Husman of Sioux City; and four sisters: Lilly Nelson of Sibley, Jo Grienke and her husband Robert of Alta, Martha Helland of Mason City, and Freda Congdon and her husband Wayne of Wisconsin; as well as other relatives and many friends.
