Anderson wins both matches by fall

The youthful Cherokee Braves wrestling team found the going tough against two formidable foes here Tuesday night, opening up their regular season in a double dual also featuring MOC-Floyd Valley and Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto.

Cherokee lost 58-24 in the opener against the Dutchmen, and then failed 51-27 against the Rams.

The Braves managed just one wrestling win against MOC-FV, with three other matches won by forfeit to account for the team points. The Braves won five of 14 matches against MVAO.

Zac Anderson was a double pin winner for the Braves at 152 pounds, and Rick Weaver (145), Tyler McLaughlin (171), and Michael Rosewall (215)also claimed pin victories for Cherokee.

In JV action, the Young Braves tallied five wins against MVAO, with Blake Booth (152), Alex Maurer (152), Dallas Boger (160), Mason Hatch (171), and Trevor Devitt each winning by fall. Against MOC-FV in JV action, Booth and Hatch won by fall, and Maurer won by sudden victory.

"I was nervous going into the night," said Cherokee coach Jason Wood. "You're never quite sure of how ready you are the first time you go out on the mat.

"We looked much better against MVAO. We got off to a good start winnin g five of the first seven matches."

The Braves travel to Sergeant Bluff-Luton Saturday.
