MARCUS - The highly acclaimed Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls jumped out to a 23-8 lead after the first quarter and hiked that to 42-12 by halftime to decimate Remsen-UNion 68-35 in War Eagle Conference basketbhall here Tuesday night.
MMC's Erica Dreckman scored 23 points to lead all scorers, while Kayla Foresman added 14, and Jalyn Doeden 10. Jen Ruba led R-U with 12 points.
Foresman led the Eagles to a huge advantage on the boards, pocketing a dozen rebounds, while Doeden grabbed nine, and Reagan McDaniel five. Doeden led in assists with four, and Carly Lehnhoff tallied three.
MMC shot 36 percent from the field and cashed in 68 percent of their free throws.
"I'm really proud of the girls defense," said MMC coach Tim Dreckman. "We caused a lot of turnovers and got out in transition offense for easy lay-ups and baskets. Kayla and Jalyn did a great job of rebounding, and Reagan and Anna Wilcox had really good floor games all around.
"I'm very pleased with the way the girls are playing basketball at this point."
The MMC teams host Le Mars Gehlen Friday night. The MMC girls are 2-0 this early season.
