ONAWA - The River Valley girls used pressure defense and a very balanced scoring attack to win their basketball game against West Monona here on Monday, 61-46.
RV Coach Matt Jenness said, "West Monona handled the pressure well most of the game, but we were able to pull away in the 4th quarter , and then hold off a late rally."
River Valley's scoring attack was led by junior Mackenzie Fitch with 14 points, followed closely by fellow juniors Britney Hunwardsen with 12, Kari Ludvigson with 11, Lexie Chester with 10, and Britney Shropshire with nine.
Ludvigson and Hunwardsen each grabbed eight rebounds, while Ludvigson dished out five assists.
"Our girls showed they can play great pressure defense for four quarters ," stated a pleased Coach Jenness, " We only play seven or eight girls," he added, "so to press and get up and down the court the whole game is tough, but we were able to do it. If we continue to play defense like that, we will continue to have success."
River Valley (2-0) begins their Western Valley Conference schedule Friday in Correctionville, against Maple Valley-Anthon Oto.
