ALTA - The Alta-Aurelia Warriors showed the Mustangs of Newell-Fonda how to play the game of hoops in a Northwest Conference basketball doubleheader here on Tuesday night, sweeping the Mustangs.

In the opener, the Alta-Aurelia girls of coach Jeannie Henningsen beat the previously-undefeated Lady Mustangs, ranked 12th in the last state rankings, by a final score of 55-45.

The two-pronged senior attack of point guard Jordan Henningsen and post Meghan Glawe led the Warriors, with Glawe scoring 20 points and Henningsen 19. Henningsen also dished out nine assists with some nifty passing. Emily Grieme led the Warriors on the boards with eight rebounds, with Henningsen chipping in with six boards and Courtney VanHaaften with five.

The Warriors now boast a 3-2 season mark, and the win evened their conference record at 1-1.

A-A Coach Henningsen said, "We played with intensity tonight on both ends of the court. We passed the ball very well and made the extra pass for some easy shots. We kept our composure during some tough stretches and played great in the fourth quarter. We need to keep working on the little things, because they become big things during games. That was our motto in practice the last few days, and we played like we practiced."

A-A Coach Dean Lietz's Warrior boys followed suit in the second game, overcoming a two-point deficit at the first quarter break to grab a five-point halftime lead. They extended the lead to nine after three, on the way to posting a final 54-41 win.

Jalen Henningsen paced the well-balanced Warrior scoring with 15 points, followed by Jaden Holton with 10 points, A.J. Lange with nine, and Ryan Friedrich and Neil Marshall with eight apiece. Austin Delp also came off the bench to contribute four points. Dalton Anderson and Caelin Schrank each scored 10 to lead the Mustangs.

Friedrich topped the Warrior rebounders with eight boards, as nine Warriors grabbed at least one board apiece. Holton dished out four assists and Friedrich and Marshall three each.

Coach Lietz commented that "this was a great game between two quick and athletic teams. Henningsen had a great night on both ends, and Friedrich gave us production in every phase of the game. Jaden had a good floor game, scoring and assisting. Marshall had another solid performance, and A.J. chipped in with nine points. Delp gave good minutes off the bench, along with Karl Kennedy, Christian)Weiland and Austin Glawe, so it was a team effort. We look forward to taking on Lawton-Bronson in our next game."

The Warriors are 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in Northwest Conference play, heading into Friday's non-conference contest at Lawton.-Bronson.
