Betty (Steward) McGowan
Betty (Steward) McGowan, age 83, of Storm Lake, died Dec. 22, 2010 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Memorial services took place Monday, December 27, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Visitation was Sunday, December 26, 2010 from 3-6:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Ann Steward was born November 10, 1930 in Sutherland, Iowa, the daughter of DeForest and Mabel (French) Steward. Growing up, she attended school in Cherokee and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1949.

On October 13, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Delmar McGowan in Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with five children.

Betty worked at JC Penney's in Storm Lake until she retired in 2004. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake and also volunteered at the Senior Center.

In her spare time, Betty enjoyed flower gardening and vegetable gardening. She also enjoyed reading and canning.

Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family above all earthly interest. She will be forever missed.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons: Gary Allen and Delmar Lee Jr.; sisters: Fern, Erma, Doris, and Beverly; brothers, Lloyd, Louis, Wayne and Jim.

Betty is survived by her son, Terry and wife, Ann McGowan of Urbandale, Iowa; daughters: Patricia and husband, Dean Batt of Stamford, Nebraska; and Peggy and husband, Mark Pottorff of Sergeant Bluff; grandchildren: Loretta Batt of Des Moines, Iowa; Philip and wife, April Batt of Orleans, Nebraska; DeAnna Ruskamp and husband, Matt of Greenwood, Nebraska; Ashley Batt of Stamford, Nebraska; and Justin, Michelle and Scott Pottorff of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; six great grandchildren; sister, Velma Martin of Cherokee, Iowa; extended family and friends.
