Deb Klimeck received her honor from the Hy-Vee offices. Deb began her employment in May of 1999 as a part-time order selector in General Merchandise.
She accepted a regular-time position in the Shipping and Receiving Office in January of 2000 and was promoted to full-time in March of 2003.
Currently, Deb is a great asset as the Hy-Vee Shipping and Receiving Office lead person. Prior to 1999 Deb worked at the Storm Lake Hy-Vee in various departments during high school and after she graduated.
Deb doesn't ever give up; she'll research something until she has the answer. The Longhorn fan is an excellent problem solver. She'll do anything asked of her and really goes out of her way to work with people.It shows how much she cares about her job and doing her job correctly.
When Deb was asked about Hy-Vee she said "Hy-Vee's been my passion for many years. Working for a family oriented business gives you such a great support system and friendship. I enjoy coming to work to see what the new challenges will arise for the day. Solving issues that arise are just so rewarding." Deb is married to Greg and has two daughters, Jenika and Ashley, and step-children; Mary, Jeremy, and Dan. They also have six grandchildren; Olivia, Brach, Brendon, McKenna, Nicole, and Trevor. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, bowling, college football, NASCAR, and outside activities in the summer.
Heather Nehring received her honor from the Hy-Vee part-time employees. Heather began her Hy-Vee career in February of 2005 as a part-time clerk in the Shipping and Receiving Office.Her Hy-Vee dedication shows while attending college, she also worked at the Vermillion Hy-Vee store as a cashier and bakery clerk. During holiday breaks and over the summer, she would return to work in Hy-Vee Office. Heather is the versatile employee that can work a variety of desks and shifts.Her maturity is demonstrated as she volunteers to fill in for others including many Friday night overnights. When asked about Hy-Vee she said "Hy-Vee has always been supportive of my personal goals and has assisted me greatly in my education. The company cares about the individual employees and wants to see them succeed. Specifically, the Cherokee Distribution Center has worked around my hectic schedule, allowing me to keep up with classes while working. Individuals at the warehouse are caring and concerned about their fellow employees. Almost every weekend I come back, I have people ask me about school, my future plans, and how I am; these responses make it worth the drive home to work." She Graduated from Alta High School in 2007. From there, she went to the University of South Dakota, majoring in Secondary Education and will graduate from in May of 2011 with a B.S. in History Education and minors in Psychology and English. She's the daughter of Marv (truck driver) and Mary Nehring, and has one brother Ryan. She enjoys fishing, gardening, running, vacationing, shopping, and a new hobby of creating flower arrangements.
Howard Hesse received his honor from the Hy-Vee Department Managers. Howard began his employment at full-time status in July of 1977 as an order selector in Grocery. Howard was promoted to Assistant Department Manager is July of 1999. For over a decade, his managerial duties have taken him all throughout the facility from General Merchandise to Grocery to his current Repack department.Howard is a Hy-Vee veteran. He's very conscientious and is a great communicator. When asked about Hy-Vee he said "good people. It's a great company with a clean and safe workplace. Every day is a different challenge." Howard is an avid sports fan including golf, the Iowa Hawkeyes, New York Yankees and Explorers baseball.Howard has coached and helped Cherokee area baseball teams for years, but nothing has his heart more than his boxer Abby.
Mike Drefke received his honor from the Hy-Vee Truck department. Mike began his employment as a part-time driver in the Transportation department in September of 2001.He was promoted to full-time in September of 2003. Mike is savvy and always looking for a new challenge. He's never afraid to try something new. If attitude makes the difference between getting tasks done and making them fun, Mike is the epitome of great attitude.He inspires everyone around him with his dedication and caring. When asked about Hy-Vee he said "co-workers are friendly and helpful. Employees are informed on what's going on with the company and it's latest updates." Mike's brother, Mitch, and sister- in-law, Susan, work at the Distribution Center. Mike is married to Sandy (our WG2 recipient) and they have two children; Shauna & Dillon. He enjoys riding four wheelers, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and attending kid's athletic events.
Sandy Drefke received her honor from the WG Department. Sandy began her career with Hy-Vee in May 1999, as a part-time order selector in General Merchandise. She was promoted to regular time in September of 2006. Sandy is an exceptional worker and quite simply just "gets the job done." She has a welcoming personality, loves to be around co-workers, and always tries to the best of her abilities. When asked about Hy-Vee, she said that "co-workers are willing to help with anything, and listen to your ideas to improve." Sandy's brother-in-law Mitch and sister-in-law Susan work at the Distribution Center. Sandy and her husband Mike (truck driver) have one daughter, Shauna and one son, Dillon. Sandy enjoys tubing down the river, refinishing wooden furniture, and activities with her family.
Steve Mahnke received his honor from the Warehouse Generalist I Department. Steve began his Hy-Vee employment in June 1981 as an order selctor in Grocery. He was promoted to regular-time status in May 1983 and full-time in September 1988. Steve is a rock solid employee who never makes a mistake. He is a quiet individual and exceptionally reliable. Steve is a steadfast example of Hy-Vee's fundamentals : Helpful, Respectful, Honest, Friendly, and Dedicated. No one better exemplifies the personal and professional qualities that Hy-Vee honors through this award. When asked about Hy-Vee, Steve said, "Good people to work with, in a clean environment. I enjoy getting to do something different every day." Steve is a great father to his daughter Morgan and son Seth. He also enjoys his grandson, Connor. His hobbies are attending sporting events, four wheeling and camping.
