Cherokee Jazz and Blues Festival organizers recently announced a new way to process each call for designated driver rides during the 11th annual Cherokee Jazz & Blues Festival this weekend.

To provide a safe and fun Festival, those attending the Festival can call for free rides to and from venues anywhere in Cherokee tonight and Saturday.

Festival organizer Jim Adamson stated, "I met with Ron Oman and two people who volunteered to work volunteer shifts as Dispatchers Friday night and Saturday night this week. Ron will manage the over-all designated driver service, and he will also volunteer as a driver one night."

Adamson continued, "The two individuals who volunteered to be a dispatcher will receive

telephone requests for a ride, and will then relay the requests via telephone to the designated drivers, wherever they are."

In the past, each request for a ride went via telephone to a designated driver in his/her vehicle.

"We will have three such vehicles in service each night, and hope that having a dispatcher to receive and relay requests for rides will make the system more efficient," said Adamson.

The telephone numbers for the dispatchers during the 11th annual Cherokee Jazz & Blues Festival are: Tonight: 712-225-6330 and Saturday: 712-225-5247.
