CORRECTIONVILLE - The River Valley boys were unable to overcome 30 costly turnovers and dropped a 71-59 non-conference basketball game to the Hinton Blackhawks here on Thursday.

Mark Pertersen led the Woverines in scoring with 21 points, while Zak Gander added 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Blaine Cullen had five steals and eight rebounds for RV. while Brody and Brennan Riedemann each dished out 3 assists.

Jason Vander Kooi scored 27 points to lead the Blackhawks.

RV coach Dean Norris said, "Although we shot the ball better tonight , we put ourselves in such a hole with the turnovers that it made it difficult to win the game."

On a positive note, continued the veteran coach, "The kids' attitude and effort remain positive, and we did shoot 16 for 20 from the free throw line."

The busy River Valley boys host Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn here tonight, play at Remsen-Union Tuesday night, and host Alta-Aurelia Thursday night, and Westwood Friday night.
