LAURENS - The Alta-Aurelia boys played a terrific first half, and held a seven-point lead at halftime of their Northwest Conference basketball match-up with Laurens-Marathon here on Friday. In the second half, though, in the words of Alta-Aurelia coach Dean Lietz, Laurens-Marathon "shot lights out," connecting on eight three-point shots. The score was tied at 40 heading into the last quarter, and L-M wound up winning by three, 60-57.
A.J. Lange led the Warriors with 16 points, while Jalen Henningsen added 12, and Austin Glawe and Ryan Friedrich each scored eight points. Jaden Holton scored seven points and Christian Weiland scored five coming off the bench.
Laurens-Marathon had four seniors tally in double figures, led by Bryce Maschino with 20 points. Ryan Hudson added 13 points, Austin Stumbo 12, and Case Bieri 10 for the Chargers
Alta-Aurelia got a big night on the boards from Austin Glawe, who grabbed 14 rebounds, and Ryan Friedrich added nine boards. Jalen Henningsen had three steals, and Austin Delp, Christian Weiland and Ryan Friedrich had two apiece. Jaden Holton dished out six assists to lead the team in that department while Weiland added four
and Henningsen three.
To sum up, Coach Lietz said, "We left them open on a couple of occasions, but contested hard on some that they drained. Hats off to Maschino for a great game. We played hard as a team, and I think we're headed in the right direction."
The Warriors' season mark now stands at 5-3, 2-1 in conference play. They travel to Correctionville on Thursday for a non-conference game with River Valley.
