HAWARDEN - West Sioux outscored Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn 20-12 in the pivotal fourth quarter to sneak past the 15th-rated Eagles 54-53 in heated War Eagle Conference girls basketball action here Friday night.
Dana Weerheim scored 19 points, Jade Lynn Vlotho 17, and Brooke McManaman 14 to lead the victorious Falcons.
Erica Dreckman led all scorers with 23 points for MMC, while Kelsey Sears added 14, and Stephanie Specht six. Specht also led the Eagles on the boards with 11 rebounds, and Dreckman managed eight. Dreckman led her team in steals with five, and Specht totaled three picks.
MMC sank 25-64 field goals for 39 percent, including a 1-5 effort from the three-point arc. The Eagles cashed in 4-10 free throws.
West Sioux made 25-78 shots for 32 percent, and was 5-22 from three-point range. The Falcons netted 9-18 free throws.
The Falcons controlled the boards with their superior height 41-28, with Vlotho grabbing 11, Weerheim 10, and Shannon Kots nine.
Carly Lehnhoff and Sears paced MMC in assists with two each.
MMC (9-2) led 15-12 after the first quarter, 25-23 at halftime, and 41-34 heading into the final eight minutes when West Sioux (8-3) took over.
The MMC teams host South O'Brien Friday night.
