Compensation Board makes recommendationsto Supervisors

Rich Cook, President of the Cherokee County Compensation Board presented his Board's recommendation for salaries for the 2011/2012-budget year to the Cherokee County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

The Comp. Board recommendation were a $400 increase for the County Board of Supervisors a total of $21,500 per Supervisor. County Attorney would receive an additional $1,2500 bring a yearly salary to $84,250. For County Auditor an increase of $1,250 bring a yearly total to $48,250.

As for both County Recorder and County Treasurer and increase was recommended for $1,750 for the Recorder and $1,250 for the Treasurer bring both positions to a total of $48,250 a year. The final recommendation was for the County Sheriff with an increase of $3,750 to a total amount of $61,250.

The Board took the recommendation under advisement as it heads in their annual budget review.

Sheriff Dave Scott and Chief Deputy Jeff Friedrichsen addressed the Board in regards hiring an architect for expanding the Cherokee County Jail. Friedrichsen received the Boards permission to contact Rick Emswiler about cost to design a sally port and two new cells to be added on to the existing jail.

The Board also revived the semi-annual revenue report from Cherokee County Treasure Hedgie Brandt with the Total Cash on Hand balance of $8,231,433.

Cherokee County Recorder Dawn Jones Coombs also presented here Quarterly Revenue Report to the Board. She reported a total $77,318 in Fees Collected.

Cherokee County Veteran Affairs Director Dana Evans presented his 2010 Annual Report. His office saw 80 new claims in 2010.

The Board also received a budget request from Patrick Schmitz of Plains Area Mental Health in the amount of $71,727 for 2011/2012.

In other business the Board approved a resolution regarding Construction evaluation relating to the construction of a confinement feeding operation structure.

Only counties that have adopted a construction evaluation resolution can submit to the Department of Natural Resources an adopted recommendation to approve or disapprove a construction permit application regarding a proposed confinement feeding operation structure.

The Board also adopted the recommendations from the Iowa Communities assurance Pool to videotape or photographed for documentation purposes incase of a major fire or tornado. The video or photographs will save significant time during the claim process.
