Thursday, January 20, 2011

IDA GROVE - Iowa's #1 rated Class 2A Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove girls basletball team ran out to a commanding 51-19 halftime lead on the way to a 77-49 victory over Ridge View in Western Valley Conference action here last week.

The 15-0 Falcons placed four players in double figures, led by Jessie Pauley 19, Morgan VanderSloot 15, Katie Kallin 12, and Lexi Olerich 10.

The winners sank 41-84 field goals for a warm 49 percent, including a 9-21 effort from the three-point line. OA-BCIG was just 4-13 from the free throw line.

Ridge View (6-6) was led by Egypt Clayton's 21 points, followed by Roxanne Grundmeier nine, and Brooke Wiese six.

The Raptors drained 18-53 shots for a chilly 34 percent, was 0-3 on three-balls, and netted 13-16 free throws.

Clayton led Ridge View on the boards with eight grabs, while Wiese and Grundmeier each hauled down six. Emily Schiernbeck led the team in assists with three.

Pauley registered seven assists and had five steals to lead the Falcons in both categories.

"We came out and did some good things in this game against an elite team in OA-BCIG," said Ridge View coach Ken Slater. "OA-BCIG definitely played at the level of their ranking. They controlled the pace of the game which was fast. We lived on the defensive end of the floor in the first half.

"I was proud of our effort throughout the game and felt we competed well. I felt we did some good things against their press but just could not finish in the first half. In the second half, the girls executed what we wanted to do and it paid off. Hopefully, we are turning the corner in our development and will compete at a high level for an entire game."
