On Saturday Jan. 22, there will be a gallery talk and reception for all of the photographers who entered the "Beauty of Northwest Iowa" photo contest currently being held at the Cherokee Sanford Museum.

The reception will begin at 7:30 p.m. for the public to meet and talk with the artists and will include a gallery talk from the judge who will determine the winners of the contest at that time. This year's judge is Rebecca Frates, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Buena Vista University.

Currently on display at the Museum's West Gallery are an estimated 67 pictures from Northwest Iowa and they will be hanging in the gallery of the Museum until the middle of February.

The contest was open to amateur entries and no age limit was set. Entries had to be original photos, taken by the entrant. The photos had to be 8 x 10 inches in size and all photos are loose, no mats or frames were allowed.

All photos must have been taken in Northwest Iowa and suitable for display, with no bends, folds, wrinkles, curls or smears.

Also, the photos are to be labeled on the back with title, name, phone number and address. Entries can be rejected for any reason.

Award for first place is $100, second place is $50 and third place is $25.

All photos must be picked up at the Museum during the week of Feb. 14 through Feb. 23. This event is free and open to the public.
