Approximately 24 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes. Unfortunately, these numbers continue to rise rapidly as more than 1.6 million new cases of diabetes will be diagnosed in the U.S. this year alone! Almost everyone is affected by diabetes, whether they are diabetics themselves or simply by knowing friends or family members who suffer from diabetes.
With this in mind, Cherokee Regional Medical Center is starting a diabetes support group. The first two meetings will take place on Monday, February 7th and Monday, March 7th, 2011. They will be held in the CRMC 1st Floor Conference Room beginning at 6:30 p.m. Anyone who has diabetes, as well as spouses, family members or friends of someone with diabetes are all welcome and encouraged to attend.
The educational meetings will include group discussions, a time for sharing, and guest speakers on occasion. CRMC diabetic educators will also be on hand to answer any questions and/or concerns one may have regarding diabetes. This format offers peer support in a small group atmosphere. The meetings are free of charge and open to the public. For more information, please contact Stephanie Jacobson at 712.225.3368 Ext. 138.
