Sheriff's Office conducts firearms training classes

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office will be conducting firearm training classes as required by the Code of Iowa for persons wishing to renew their firearms permit to carry, or obtain a permit for the first time.

The classes will be held at the Cherokee Law Enforcement Center, 111 North Fifth St. in Cherokee on the following dates.

Friday, February 25 at 7 p.m. (class is full).

Friday, March 25 at 7 p.m.

Saturday, April 16 at 7 p.m.

Friday, May 13 at 7 p.m.

You must call the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department at 225-6737 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to pre-register in person to fill out the application for the class.

Classes will be limited to 25 people and the deadline to register for a class will be five days prior to the date of the class.

These classes are free to Cherokee County residents only.

Participants need to bring their current photo I.D. with them to the class. Classes last approximately one hour.
