'Honk Jr.' to be presented this weekend

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Members of the cast of 'Honk jr.' rehearse their opening number at a Tuesday night rehearsal.
The Cherokee Community Theater will be presenting a special educational performance of the musical "Honk Jr." for elementary students at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 28 at the Cherokee Community Center.

On Saturday, Jan. 29 and Sunday, Jan. 30, the play will be performed for the general public, with a 7 p.m. performance on Saturday and a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

"Honk Jr." is a contemporary musical re-telling of Hans Christian Anderson's classic story, 'The Ugly Duckling.' Ugly, whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from his family and neighbors, is separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry Cat. Through his rollicking and harrowing journey, kids learn that being different is okay, and that somewhere out there, someone's gonna love you -- warts and all!

The large cast of "Honk jr." is under the capable direction of venerable CCT veteran Sherry Held.
