ALTA - The Alta-Aurelia boys fought gamely and trailed by just four points at the half, but in the end, the height and inside play of Manson-Northwest Webster was just too much for the Warriors to overcome in a non-conference game here on Friday. The Cougars of the Twin Lakes Conference took the game by a 75-55 score.
Alta-Aurlia coach Dean Lietz said, "This was a tough match-up for us inside, as (Kayden) Cue is a great athlete with very good size. We tried some different things defensively, but nothing seemed to work for an extended period. We got out-rebounded as well, which didn't help. We need to refocus our attention next week on (Storm Lake) St. Mary's, as that will be a big game." A-A played SLSM at Alta on Tuesday.
Jalen Henningsen led Warrior scoring with 14 points, while AJ Lange added 12, Jaden Holton eight, and Karl Kennedy seven. Ryan Friedrich topped Warrior rebounders with five and Holton, Neil Marshall and Austin Glawe each snagged four boards. Christian Weiland stole three passes.
Manson's Cue scored 33 points and Brandon Wessels pitched in with 21 points of his own for the Cougars, who are 10-8.
Alta-Aurelia will host East SacCounty on Thursday, and Laurens-Marathon on Friday.
