A-A's VanHouten, Schmitz earn District berths

MOVILLE - Alta-Aurelia's Garrett Van Houten pinned Woodbury Central's Nathan Mellies in 2:54 to win the 215 lb. championship match at Saturday's Class 2A Wrestling Sectional Tournament here, and teammate Jared Schmitz pinned Akron-Westfield's Chancellor Gant in 4:48 to take second in the 140 lb. division, via a wrestle back, so both Warrior wrestlers will continue on to the District Tournament this Saturday

Host Woodbury Central won the team championship, and will send six of their wrestlers on to wrestle in the District. Alta-Aurelia finished 7th in the team standings with 78.5 points.

Alta-Aurelia's Jorge McDonald lost a wrestle back to finish third at 119, and finishes his season with a record of 18-23. The Warriors' Taylor Stevicks at 130 and Cody Cameron at 135 also finished third, and finished their seasons with winning records of 34-11 (Stevicks) and 23-16 (Cameron).

Jon-Michael Henry placed 6th, and ended his season with a record of 11-15. Team Standings:
