SIOUX CITY - Morningside sophomore Breanna Mathes, a past graduate of Galva-Holstein High School, broke a long-standing school record for the 1000 meter run when she ran that event at Saturday's Husker Invitational indoor track meet in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Mathes finished ninth in the event, but her time of 2:57.09 is the fastest time in the NAIA so far this season, and it broke the school record of 2:58.47, set by Gina DeWitt in 1992.

Former Cherokee Washington graduate Kara Nelson, now a senior at Morningside, finished sixth in the 3000 meters with her time of 10:31.13.
