The 15-5 Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls lost a 51-50 heartbreaker at Le Mars Gehlen Friday night, and rebounded with a 56-40 victory over West Sioux in Marcus Saturday night in a weather makeup game.
At Le Mars, Gehlen led 33-22 at halftime, but the MMC girls went on a 28-18 scoring advantage in the second half to tighten things up to the nail-biting finish. The Eagles outscored the Jays 15-5 in the third frame.
Erica Dreckman paced MMC with 17 points, while Stephanie Specht tallied 11, and Reagan McDaniel eight. Steph Rohe led Gehlen with 14 points, followed by Katelin Langel 13, and Amber Timmins 12.
Specht also led MMC in rebounds with nine, and Dreckman pocketed a whopping eight steals to lead all players in that category.
MMC sank 21-48 shots for 44 percent, and was 6-9 from the free throw line. The Jays made 18-43 field goals for 42 percent and cashed in 14-23 free throws.
Dreckman fired in 26 points to lead the Eagles past West Sioux, while Jalyn Doeden added 14, and McDaniel 12. Anna Wilcox led the winners on the boards with five rebounds. Dreckman also had seven assists for the winners.
MMC sank 19-44 field goals for 43 percent, and netted 17-22 free throws.
