Dreckman's 31 points lead Eagles to Regional win

MARCUS - Erica Dreckman fired in 31 points on 16-31 shooting, including 5-10 three-pointers and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line, to pace Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn's girls to a decisive 67-39 shellacking of Granville Spalding in Class 1A Regional Tournament first-round action here Thursday night.

The Eagles split two games with Spalding during regular season and atoned for the one loss (54-50 Spartans) with the impressive 28-point victory margin Thursday night in tourney action.

Stephanie Specht and Kelsey Sears scores 11 points apiece for MMC, as the Eagles of coach Tim Dreckman sank 26-61 field goals for 43 percent, notched 5-15 three-balls with Dreckman hitting of all those, and netted 10-18 from the foul line.

Jenn Hansen scored 18 points for the Spalding girls, who shut the books on the 2010-2011 basketball season with a 10-12 record.

MMC takes a shiny 16-5 mark into Tuesday night's Regional second-round game in Marcus against Ruthven-Ayrshire, a team the Eagles destroyed 65-36 in a non-conference match-up Jan. 22 in Marcus.

R-A beat Clay Central Everly 47-43 in first-round Regional action in Everly Thursday night.

Specht recorded a sweet double-double performance in the win over Spalding with 13 rebounds to accompany her 11 points. Jalyn Doeden nabbed 11 boards, Dreckman five, and Reagan McDaniel four.

Dreckman, a junior, also led her team in assists with six, and steals with four for a superb all-around effort at both ends of the court, including two blocked shots.
