Cherokee gas prices vary

It seems that the gas stations in Cherokee are currently engaged in a gas war.

This type of price war benefits the whole community. Prices for a gallon of gas have dropped in Cherokee considerable in the past week.

As of Monday the average price for a gallon a gas in Cherokee was $2.93 a gallon. Hy-Vee Gas was $3.09, Casey's General Store was $2.82, Kum & Go North was $2.82, Kum and Go on Main St. was $2.89, County Tire and Service $3.18, Sparky's was $2.85 and the Turbo Tunnel was $2.85.

Average retail gasoline prices in Iowa have not moved in the past week, averaging $3.13/g as of Sunday.

This compares with the national average that has increased 0.8 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.12/g, according to gasoline price website IowaStateGasPrices.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Iowa during the past week, prices Sunday were 61.8 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 6.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

The national average has increased 4.9 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 50.4 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.
