MARCUS - The tired Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn boys, playing five games in 10 days, dropped a 63-42 game to tough Kingsley-Pierson here Friday night, after falling behind 30-19 at halftime.
Dylan Spieler led the Eagle scoring with 13 points, and Neal Bunt added 12. Brandon Bainbridge paced the 17-4 Panthers with 19 points, and Colin Henrich added 10.
MMC made 16-42 field goals for 38 percent and meshed 7-13 free throws, while K-P sank 24-58 shots for 41 percent and cashed in 12-21 free throws.
"K-P is solid in all aspects of the game," said MMC coach Pat Bird. "Their tough man-to-man defense kept us from getting into any kind of offensive rhythm. What really hurt us was the second and third shots they got from crashing the offensive boards.
"K-P is a very good team. We allowed them too many second and third chances at the offensive end. You just can't do that against a good team like that."
The game ends regular season play for both teams, with MMC sporting a 7-13 record heading into tournament play, and K-P 17-4. MMC plays at tough Remsen-Union Thursday in first-round Class 1A Districts.
