REMSEN - Kraig Alesch scored a game-high 25 points to pace the Remsen-Union Rockets to a 62-49 Class 1A District basketball victory over Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn here Thursday night.

R-U led 15-14 after the first quarter, 32-30 at halftime, and pulled away in the third period on a 14-8 scoring advantage to take a 46-38 lead into the last quarter.
MMC went the first four minutes of the second half without a score, despite having several open looks, but the shots just wouldn't fall.
"We certainly played hard for 32 minutes, but their superior size took its toll on us as the game wore on," said MMC coach Pat Bird.
"They outrebounded us by 14, including a 9-rebound advantage on the offensive boards. We missed several shots early in the second half and that allowed them to pull away."
MMC, which competes in the rugged War Eagle Conference, closes the books on the season with a 7-14 record .
