Eagles one win away from State Tournament

ORANGE CITY - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls beat George-Little Rock 50-41 in a Class 1A Regional basketball semifinal here Friday night, advancing to face Newell-Fonda in Spencer, that winner to the Iowa State Tournament next week in Des Moines.

MMC sports a shiny 18-5 record and Newell-Fonda stands at 13-10.

Erica Dreckman scored 22 points to lead the Eagles past George-Little Rock, while Reagan McDaniel added 14, and Jalyn Doeden seven.

Stephanie Specht led MMC on the boards with 11 rebounds, with McDaniel and Doeden grabbing four apiece. McDaniel and Kelsey Sears led the winners in steals with three each, and Sears led in assists with three.

MMC sank 16-42 field goals for 38 percent, was 0-7 from the three-point line, and made 18-26 free throws in the game. Dreckman was 12-17 from the foul line to easily lead that category.

Karlee Stubbe led G-LR with 11 points, and Jessah Fiedler tallied 10 points. The Mustangs made 15-50 shots for 30 percent, was 2-14 for three-balls, and meshed 9-14 free throws.
