WHS girls receive All-Lakes honors

Hummel named to second team

Cherokee 5-7 sophomore Megan Hummel was named to the 2010-2011 All-Lakes Conference girls basketball second team announced last week.

Cherokee's Shanon Shaefer, a 5-6 junior; and 5-5 sophomore Megan Carlson were named All-Lakes Conference Honorable Mention.

In addition, two Cherokee players - seniors Danielle Hansen and Liz Dawson - earned Academic All-Lakes Conference honors.

Girls' Basketball Lakes Conference Champion Estherville-LC landed three players on the All-Lakes first team, including 6-1 junior Alyssa Johnson, 5-10 sophomore Allie Sievert, and 5-7 sophomore Emily Kirchner.

Other first team selections were 5-9 senior Kayla Gesink, and 5-10 sophomore Brooke Wolterstorf of Hull Western Christian; 6-1 junior Ashley Wiliamson and 5-10 sophomore Tiffany Martindale of Spencer; and 5-6 sophomore K.J. Veldman of Spirit Lake.

Other second team All-Lakes picks besides Cherokee's Hummel were 5-9 sophomore Macy Dahl, and 5-9 sophomore Sarah Heywood of E-LC; 5-7 senior Allie Gerking, and 5-7 senior Leah Hilpipre of Spirit Lake; 5-7 senior Emily Anderson, and 5-6 senior Erica Westhoff of Le Mars; 5-7 freshman Alissa Pollema of HWC; 6-0 junior Paige Naig of Emmetsburg; and 5-9 senior Nicole Kramer of Spencer.
