American Red Cross announces retirement of Cherokee County Coordinator

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

The American Red Cross would like to recognize Marilyn Reitsma for twenty - two years of service to the American Red Cross.

During her tenure, Marilyn managed service delivery and coordinated activity for the local Board of Directors.

Some of Marilyn's most memorable moments include the response efforts of the 1993 flood and the Timber Ridge Apartment fire in 2009. Marilyn stated, "I enjoyed getting to meet and know many of the people I've worked with or assisted over the years. There has been a great deal of satisfaction in knowing I was able to assist many in their time of disaster or family emergency."

Marilyn has been a very dedicated employee and she has spent countless hours working on behalf of the American Red Cross. Marilyn has been the hand that has provided help to hundreds of people in need of emergency assistance and she has been the administrative support to help thousands learn lifesaving CPR and water safety skills. She has been a tremendous asset to the organization and to the community.

She is now joining the volunteer ranks and will continue to be part of the local disaster response team. Marilyn and her husband, Don who is also retired, will now have a little more flexibility and may even take a few longer trips. The American Red Cross wishes Marilyn all of the best.
