Cherokee fares well at Lakes Indoor

STORM LAKE - The Cherokee boys and girls track and field teams worked the kinks out at the annual pre-season Lakes Conference Indoor Meet hosted by Buena Vista University here Tuesday.

Several Cherokee athletes placed in the top 10 in their respective events, with Taylor Woods winning the girls shot put with 36-9 1/2 heave, and Brock Dagel placing second in the boys shot put with a 46-5 effort.

Alanzo Ruble was fifth in the boys shot put with a 41-7 1/2 throw.

Cherokee's Megan Carlson was second in the open 800 meters in a time of 2:39. Katy Hart placed seventh in the girls long jump with a 14-1 1/4 leap.

The Braves' Marc Husman was third in the boys 800 meters in 2:06, and Sam Hinkhouse was seventh in the 55-meter dash in 7:07. Blake Booth placed eighth in the 1600 meters in 5:16. Husman was seventh in the long jump with an 18-2 3/4 effort.

In the relays, the Cherokee boys were fourth in the 4x800, with Ben Sampson, Booth, Jose Freed, and Luke Ziemen aboard in 9:36; fourth in the 4x400, with Hinkhouse, Kristian Freed, Husman, and Tyler McLaughlin timed in 3:46; and fifth in the 4x200, with Hinkhouse, Freed, Husman, and Ruble clocked in 1:42.

The Cherokee girls placed sixth in the 4x60 relay, with Krista Nicholaisen, Anna Wharton, Hanna Benningsdorf, and Nicole Morgan timed in 50.44.

Danni Roethler placed 10th in the 200 meters in a time of 31.16.
