The Cherokee Symphony recently held auditions at the Cherokee Community Center to select soloists who will play with the symphony at the May 1 concert.
Maestro Lee Thorson and Dr. Ed Lanning, both from Storm Lake, acted as judges. Symphony Board Members, Roxy Fudge, Doug Pierson, Charis Peterson, Kim and Karen Skadeland, and Donna Hicks organized and offered support to assure a successful audition. Refreshments were served to an appreciative audience.
The following three outstanding soloists were winners:
Angelina Gibson, home schooled, Sioux Falls, S.D., seventh grade, played Mozart's Piano Concerto in F Major No. 19. Her instructor is Paul Whitley and her parents are Beverly and Willam Gibson.
Lindsey O'Halloran, home schooled, Dakota City, Neb. junior, Played Grieg's Piano Carcerto in A Minor. Her instructors are Oris James and Kathryn March and her parents are Patrick and Sandra O'Halloran.
Nadia Maudhoo, Millard West High, Omaha, Neb., freshman, Played Jean Sibelious' Violin Concerto in D Minor. Her instructor is Anne Nagosky and her parents are Subby and Meg Maudhoo.
These featured students soloists will be a major part of a varied and exciting symphony program on Sunday, May 1 at the Cherokee Community Center at 4 p.m. Reserve this date. Come, enjoy a WOW Concert, enjoy the symphony! Association memberships honored, student under 18 are admitted free, and tickets at the door are $10.
