WHS tennis girls fall at Le Mars

LE MARS - A young, inexperienced Cherokee Washington High girls tennis team dropped a 9-0 Lakes Conference match to a veteran Le Mars team here Thursday night.

In varsity singles for Cherokee, Sarah Ruehle lost 10-2 to Carolyn Ahlers at #1, Amber Haupert fell 10-0 to Erika Westhoff at #2, Anna Lehrach lost 10-3 to Stephanie Young at #3, Taylor Meyerhofer lost 10-3 to Catie Meis at #4, Emily Estala fell 10-3 to Anna Meis at #5, and Shelby Bingham lost 10-6 to Hannah Lang at #6.

In varsity doubles, Ruehle and Denise Freed lost 10-3 to Ahlers and Westhoff at #1, Meyerhofer and Lehrach lost 10-3 to Young and C. Meis at # 2, and Haupert and Estala fell 10-8 to A. Meis and Lang at #3.

"All the girls fought hard and played a lot of great points," said Cherokee coach Tricia Koster. "I was pleased with how the girls played."

Le Mars sneaked past the Young WHS JV team 5-4.

In JV singles for Cherokee, Nicole Kellen lost 8-4 at #1, Brianna Fowler won 8-1 at #2, Mikaela Booth lost 8-6 at #3, Whittney Webb lost 8-5 at #4, Rachel Corken fell 8-4 at #5, and Brook Luetkeman won 8-6 at #6.

In JV doubles, Bingham and Kellen won 8-2 at #1, Fowler and Booth won 8-6 at #2, and Webb and Molly White lost 8-5 at #3.

The Cherokee girls host Storm Lake tonight.
