Karen Elaine Schleef, age 66, of Cherokee, passed away Saturday, April 09, 2011, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Magrey R. deVega officiated. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. Karen Elaine Schleef, the daughter of Chester and Gladys (Lewis) McTasney, was born Oct. 6, 1944, in Cherokee. Her childhood years were spent in New Jersey where she attended school and graduated from North Arlington High School in North Arlington, N.J. Following graduation, Karen attended a business trade school for a short time.
Karen moved back to Cherokee in 1967. On Feb. 17, 1968, she was united in marriage to Marlin Schleef in Cherokee.
Karen worked as a CNA for the Mental Health Institute since 1979. She retired in 1992 due to health problems. Whenever possible, Karen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her son, Jason Schleef of Cherokee; one aunt, Phoebe Mummert of Cherokee; as well as other relatives and friends.
