The Cherokee Fire Department will celebrate its 129th Firemen's Dance beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 23 in the Cherokee VFW Club at 311 E. Maple St.
Tickets are just $5 per couple and are available at the Fire Department or from any Cherokee firefighter. Firefighters also will be going door to door to give residents an opportunity to purchase tickets and support our local Fire Department.
In Year 2010 The Cherokee Fire Department responded to 78 calls, including fires, traffic accidents, rescue calls, and ambulance assist calls.
Each year firefighters are asked to increase their training time. All Cherokee firefighters are certified in Firefighter 1 and II, hazardous materials, confined space, extraction, CPR, and NIMS.
Every year, firefighters must take refresher courses to be better prepared to respond to any kind of emergency.
Proceeds from the annual Firemen's Dance benefit special equipment purchases and on-going training.
This year's band for the Firemen's Dance is "The Senders."
Officers for the Cherokee Fire Department are Chief Gary Chase, First Assistant Chief Greg Eaton, Second Assistant Chief Dan Murphy, Treasurer Roger Frisbie, and Secretary Hank Hayes.
