STORM LAKE - The new Storm Lake Superintendent of Schools is Dr. Carl Turner, who is currently the assistant superintendent in LeMars.
The Storm Lake School Board offered the job after a closed meeting on Friday to review the results of interviews with the four finalists.
Turner told the Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune he is thrilled to accept the position.
Turner has served in the Le Mars District since 2005. From 2001-2005 he was Middle School Principal in Le Mars, and from 1991-2001 was Middle School Principal in Sheldon. From 1988-1991 he was Assistant Junior High Principal in South Sioux City, Neb. From 1983-1988 he was a teacher and coach in the Dumont and Belmond School Districts.
Turner received his BA at The Master's College in California in 1980, and his MA in Secondary Administration at Iowa State University in 1988. In 1993 he received his Specialist in Education Administration at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., and received his Ed. D. in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D. in 1995.
Current Storm Lake Superintendent Dr. Paul Tedesco has resigned his position to accept a job with an area education agency in Nebraska.
The Storm Lake School Board had set an annual salary range for the new Superintendent at $136,000 to $140,000.
Tedesco was paid $128,000 annually, with his salary frozen the past three years due to on-going budget constraints plaguing all rural Iowa school districts.
