The Cherokee area suffered another in a continued series of Mediacom Cable TV outages Sunday afternoon.
The Cable TV service went out about 2:15 p.m. Sunday and was restored about 2:55 p.m., accounting for an estimated 40-minute outage.
A Mediacom customer service representative explained that there was "an outage in the Cherokee area and we have a technicial working on it." She said she didn't know the problem or the reason for the service failure, but added "It shouldn't be too long."
While customers were put on hold waiting for a customer service representative, taped advertising promoted a boxing match on Mediacom for March 5, along with playing taped "elevator" music.
A check on the Internet reveals that Mediacom has service in 22 states and is the largest cable company in Iowa.
Consumer Reports, a public watchdog magazine, ranks Mediacom 15th of 16 in TV service, 24th of 27 in Internet service, and last of 23 in telephone service.
