State Special Olympic Basketball medal winners

Recently two Cherokee Special Olympic athletes headed to Iowa City to participate in the State Special Olympics Basketball Tournament. Zach Faist, a third grade student at Roosevelt Elementary is the son of Curt and Wendy Fasit. Richard Lame, a fifth grade student at Cherokee Middle School is the son of Michelle Carey. Both boys participated in the skills basketball tournament, and each had to take their turn at passing, dribbling, and shooting to earn points in each event.

Zach earned a second place silver medal in the nine-year old division in his first attempt at state. Richard earned a third place bronze medal in the 11-year old division. Richard also placed fourth at state at Special Olympics bowling this year. It was a very successful day for the two athletes on their first trip to state in basketball.
