SPENCER - The Cherokee Braves finished fourth at the annual Spencer Invitational Golf Meet Monday, featuring just six teams from the original 14-team match due to inclement weather postponement from April 16.
Host Spencer won the team title after carding a 307, followed by Creston 319, Le Mars 336, Cherokee 346, Estherville-LC 349, and Spencer JV 394.
Spencer Jay Monahan was medalist with a 71, and Creston's Carson Whittington was runner-up with a 75.
For the Braves, Adam Pitts led the way with a 76, followed by Jake Spindler 78, Austin Winchell 91, Devin Mongan 101, Eric Wilkie 115, and Matt Woodall 119.
"Today's team score of 346 was a great showing for these guys," said Cherokee coach James DeVos. "Adam Pitts and Jake Spindler played very well, individually placing 3rd and 5th overall. Senior Austin Mongan had a previously scheduled college visit but some other guys stepped up and shot some decent scores. Hopefully we can continue to build on this strong showing."
The Braves play at the Storm Lake Invitational Saturday at Lake Creek, and travel to Hull Monday for a Lakes Conference Triangular with Hull Western Christian, and Spirit Lake.
