SPENCER - Cherokee junior thrower Taylor Woods was a double winner at the Spencer Track & Field Meet here Friday, claiming the shot put with a 37-6 effort, and the discus with a throw of 103-8.
Katy Hart was second in the long jump with a 14-7 1/2 leap; and the distance medley relay of Hart, Megan Hummel, Danni Roethler, and Megan Carlson was third in a time of 4:54.
Cherokee fifth-place finishes went to Carlson's 2:42 clocking in the 800 meters, Ariana Smith's 82-2 discus throw, and Nicole Morgan's 17.86 time in the 100 meter hurdles.
Sixth place went to Cherokee's 4x200 relay of Katie Bice, Paige Reinert, Abby Lubeck, and Roethler timed in 2:08; the sprint medley relay of Hart, Morgan, Hummel, and Roethler timed in 2:15; and the 4x100 relay of Bice, Lubeck, Reinert, and Morgan clocked in 1:01.
"Taylor's discus toss is a personal best, coming after competing at the Drake Relays in Des Moines in the shot put in the morning and then getting home in time for the meet in Spencer," said Cherokee coach Jolene Hultgren.
"Everyone on the team competed well on a very windy night. Some were battling sickness and minor injuries and still came out and did their best."
