Dagel leads Braves at SL invite

STORM LAKE - Cherokee senior thrower Brock Dagel won the shot put event at the annual Storm Lake Tornado Co-ed Relays here Tuesday night, heaving the heavy ball a personal best 50-10 1/2.

Dagel also placed third in the discus at the eight-team meet, with a throw of 138-10. Cherokee's Marc Husman also was third in the 400 meters in a time of 51.37.

The Braves' sprint medley relay of Zac Taylor, Jakob Hummel, Sam Hinkhouse, and Husman placed second with a speedy 3:47 clocking.

Distance runner Eamon Adamson was fourth in the 3200 meters in a time of 10:39, and Hinkhouse was fifth in the 100 meters in 11.87. Blake Booth was sixth in the 1600 meters in 5:01.

Three Cherokee relay teams also notched sixth-place finishes, including the 4x100 of Hinkhouse, Hummel, Luke Ziemen, and Brock Dagel timed in 47.37; the 4x200 of Zac Taylor, Tyler McLaughlin, Kevin Fajardo, and Ben Sampson timed in 1:44; and the 4x400 of Hinkhouse, Hummel, Husman, and McLaughlin in a time of 3:42.

Cherokee's JV was third in the JV 4x100 with Lane Peterson, Fajardo, Jose Freed, and Stetson Dagel timed in 50.75; and was fifth in the JV 4x200 with Peterson, Andy Pitts, Freed, and Stetson Dagel timed in 1:46. Spirit Lake Park won the boys varsity team title with 129 points, followed by Carroll Kuemper 89, Le Mars 86, MOC-Floyd Valley 68, Spencer 60, Storm Lake 51, Cherokee 40, and Estherville-LC 35.
