WHS tennis girls drop two matches

Lakes Conference Team Champion Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji swept the young Cherokee Washington High girls 9-0 here last week.

In varsity singles for Cherokee, Sara Ruehle lost 10-0 to Alli Gerking at #1, Denise Freed lost 10-4 to Aubry Kolegraff at #2, Amber Haupert fell 10-1 to KJ Veldman at #3, Anna Lehrach lost 10-4 to Hannah Coenen at #4, Taylor Meyerhofer lost 10-0 to Rachael Westergard at #5, and Emily Estala fell 10-3 to Holly Seemann at #6.

In varsity doubles, Ruehle and Freed lost 10-1 to Gerking and Kolegraff at #1, Haupert andEstala lost 10-2 to Coenen and Westergard at #2, and Lehrach and Meyerhofer lost 10-2 to Veldman and Seemann at #3.

"Spirit Lake is a tough team," said Cherokee coach Tricia Koster. "I was happy with how the girls held their own against them."

In JV action, the SLP-O gals also dominated 9-0.

In JV singles, Shelby Bingham lost 8-1 at #1, Nicole Kellen lost 9-8 in a 7-3 tiebreaker at #2, Brianna Fowler lost 8-2 at #3, Mikaela Booth fell 8-3 at #4, Rachel Corken lost 8-6 at #5, and Brooke Luetkeman lost 8-3 at #6.

In JV doubles, Bingham and Kellen fell 8-3 at #1, Fowler and Booth lost 8-4 at #2, and Corken and Molly White lost 8-4 at #3.

In a weather make-up completed last week against Le Mars and played in Spencer after the Lakes Conference Tournament, Le Mars prevailed 6-3 over the WHS gals.

In varsity singles, Ruehle lost 10-0 to Carolyn Ahlers at #1, Freed lost 10-0 to Erica Westhoff at #2, Lehrach lost 10-8 to Stephanie Young at #3, Meyerhofer lost 10-1 to Catie Meis at #4, Estala beat Hannah Lang 10-8 at #5, and Bingham beat Sophie Arens 10-8 at #6.

Meyerhofer and Lehrach beat Lang and Arens at #3 doubles for Cherokee's only doubles win.
