Kay Lucille Specht was born June 29, 1943 to Wendell R. and Frances L. (Fritz) Nordstrom. Kay went to grade school in the Cherokee and Meriden area, and graduated from Holstein High School. Upon graduation she earned a cosmetology degree. She was married Dec. 7, 1963. To this union two children were born, Randall and Lisa.
Kay was active in 4-H during her childhood and was a member of Rainbow. She loved her grandchildren and was very proud of them. She loved cooking and baking for her family and friends, as well as for the church auction. Kay enjoyed sharing her favorite recipes and trying new ones, and liked to share her joy in the kitchen with her grandchildren. Kay grew up on a farm, loved riding horses, and dearly loved watching them run. She was also an avid gardener and loved flowers, even though she was unable to enjoy most flowers indoors due to allergies. She often surprised others with bouquets of her flowers. Kay had a knack for knowing just when someone needed a phone call and some cheering up. She was "spunky" and "sassy" and tried to pass that on to the people she met, as well as those that she knew might need a little something special to brighten their day. Kay loved her family and friends very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Donna Jean Swink; and her brother, Elwayne L. Nordstrom.
She is survived by her son, Randall D. Specht; her daughter Lisa and her husband Terry Rasmussen; grandchildren Whitney Rae, Eric Lee and Taryn Elizabeth; one sister, Donna Swink; one niece, Rhonda Swink; and one nephew, Dennis and his wife Mary Swink and their children, Katy and Jennifer.
