OKOBOJI - Spencer captured the 2011 Lakes Conference Boys Golf Meet at Brooks National Golf Course here Monday, carding a sizzling 305 team score.
Spirit Lake was runner-up with a 324, followed by Storm Lake 331, Emmetsburg 337, Le Mars 358, Cherokee and Estherville-LC each with 361, and Hull Western Christian 365.
Adam Pitts paced the Cherokee Braves with a 78, followed by Jake Spindler 86, Austin Winchell 91, and Eric Wilkie 106. Also for Cherokee, Rick Weaver shot 115, and Devin Mongan 120.
Pitts placed sixth overall in the medalist race and earned All-Lakes Conference honors.
Spencer's Jay Monahan carded a 71 for medalist honors, and his teammate Zach carlson shot 72 for runner-up.
"The Braves played quite well today given the windy conditions at Brooks National Golf Course," noted Cherokee coach James DeVos. "Adam Pitts played very well and placed 6th overall earning All-Conference Honors. His 78 tied for 5th with Spencer's Sam DeLoss. Both players started a playoff to determine 5th and 6th place outright. Adam carded a 4 on the first hole as did Sam. However, the second playoff hole wasn't as kind to Adam when an errant drive put him in the trees. He ended up losing on that second hole for his 6th place finish.
"Overall, it was great day for this young team to once again compete and shoot a respectable score."
