EMMETSBURG - The Spirit Lake Park boys and Hull Western Christian girls captured the team titles of the 2011 Lakes Conference Co-ed Relays here Monday night.
The SLP boys totaled 136 points to take the crown, followed by Le Mars 106, torm Lake 91, Spencer 90, Emmetsburg 89, HWC 66, Estherville-LC 61, Cherokee 45.
The HWC girls tallied 156 points on their way to the Lakes title, followed by Spencer 138.5, Le Mars 123, E-LC 85, SLP 82, Emmetsburg 69.5, Storm Lake 48, Cherokee 31.
The best the Cherokee boys could do in the rugged competition was three second-place finishes, with Brock Dagel second in the shot put with a 49-11 effort, and Marc Husman second in the 200 meters in 22.81, and in the 400 meters in 51.12.
Those finishes earned Dagel and Husman All-Lakes Conference honors.
Other top finished for the Braves included Eamon Adamson fifth in the 3200 meters in 11:00, and Blake Booth sixth in the 1600 meters in 5:01.
In the relays for Cherokee, the 4x100 of Sam Hinkhouse, Jakob Hummel, Kristian Freed, and Husman was fifth in 46.82; the 4x800 was sixth in 9:14 with Booth, Tyler McLaughlin, Ben Sampson, and Kevin Fajardo aboard; and the medley featuring Hummel, Freed, Hinkhouse, and Husman timed in 3:59.
In the girls competition, Taylor Woods earned All-Lakes Conference honors for placing second in both the shot put and discus. Woods heaved the shot put 36-3 1/2, and threw the discus 101-7.
Megan Carlson was third in the 800 meters in a time of 2:34.
"It was a tough night for us as a team - the Lakes Conference always has some tough competition," said Cherokee girls coach Jolene Hultgren. "With Districts (today), our goal is to put everything on the line, do our best, and get some state qualifiers."
