Teresa Ann Walden-Norland, 47, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Cedar Township Cemetery outside Larrabee. A family gathering will follow.
Teresa was born March 4, 1964, and lived on a farm in the Cherokee area most of her young life. During her high school days Teresa helped with Special Olympics and worked as a CNA. She graduated from Washington High School in 1983. In her 20's Teresa moved to the Algona area, where she worked as a CMA and CNA at Kossuth County Care Facility. She worked as a CMA at Duncan Heights Inc. in Duncan, Iowa. For the last year of her life, she lived in Dubuque with her boyfriend, Brian Kelly, and his son, Alec.
Teresa enjoyed thrifty shopping, flowers, sunshine, music, reading, cross-stitch, Facebook, traveling, baking, and taking pictures. She loved most spending time with her family and friends. Teresa thought they made life worth living. She tried to teach them to appreciate the "little things."
She was preceded in death by her adoptive mother and father, "Auntie" Hilda and "Uncle" Theo Walden; her biological father and stepmother, Doug and Roberta Mathis; a half sister, Wanda Rassle; a half brother, Ronald Rassle; a stepsister, Susan Jordahl; and her grandparents, Paul and Helen Mathis and Blanche and Albert Bredman.
Teresa was the loving mother of three. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kasondra and Josh Richter of Wesley; her son, Kyle Norland of Cherokee; her daughter, Emily Norland of Cherokee; her biological mother and stepfather, Beverly and Rodger Beck of Larrabee; two half sisters, Beth Bresson of Independence and Brenda Fulling of Seattle, Wash.; her half brother, Kevin Rassle of Sioux City; a stepbrother, Mike Mathis of Prairie Du Chien, Wis.; her boyfriend, Brian Kelly of Dubuque; and many other family members and friends.
