SPENCER - The Cherokee Washington High girls tennis team wrapped up the 2011 season here last week in the Regional Individual Tennis Tournament.
In #1 singles action for Cherokee, senior Sarah Ruehle defeated Sioux City Heelan's Mallory Sullivan 6-1, 6-2 in first-round action, and then dropped an 0-6, 2-6 match to #1 seed Erin Olson of Estherville-LC in the second round.
In #2 singles, Cherokee junior Denise Freed beat Bailey Hagen from E-LC 6-1, 7-5 in her opening match, and then lost 3-6, 1-6 to #2 seed KJ Veldman of Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji.
In doubles action for Cherokee, senior Amber Haupert and junior Emily Estala lost 4-6, 0-6 to SLP-O's Rachael Westergard and Jamie Kohlhaase in their first match.
Also for Cherokee, junior Anna Lehrach and junior Taylor Meyerhofer lost 4-6, 5-7 to Storm Lake's Pamila Vongdeuane and Alyssa Sievers is a very close and hard-fought match.
"The girls should be very proud of how well they played and worked not only today, but all season," said Cherokee coach Tricia Koster.
